With world-class cardiac specialists, innovative medicine and compassionate care, we're ready to stop coronary artery disease (CAD) in its tracks. We won't just treat your CAD symptoms; we'll provide tools and resources to prevent or reverse it. When your heart is strong, the future looks bright.

There are many treatment options for CAD, but treatment almost always involves making lifestyle changes like:

  • Avoiding tobacco
  • Controlling blood pressure
  • Eating a low-fat, low-salt diet
  • Limiting alcohol consumption
  • Maintaining a healthy weight
  • Reducing stress

For some, medication, such as beta-blockers or ACE inhibitors, can effectively control blood pressure and reduce plaque buildup in the arteries.

If you have severe coronary artery blockage, you may need surgery. Our world-class cardiac surgeons have extensive experience in some of the most complex heart surgeries available, including:

  • Angioplasty and atherectomy
  • Coronary artery bypass grafting with endoscopic vein harvesting
  • Open and endovascular stenting
  • Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI)

A heart attack happens when a blood clot blocks an artery in your heart. It’s always a medical emergency, and always requires immediate care. During a heart attack, 85% of heart damage happens within the first two hours. If you have some of these early symptoms, call 911 for immediate medical attention:

  • Anxiety
  • Back pain
  • Chest pain (pressure, squeezing or discomfort)
  • Fatigue
  • Feeling of fullness
  • Jaw pain
  • Nausea
  • Pain that travels down one or both arms
  • Shortness of breath

We use the most advanced cardiac care to minimize the damage from a heart attack and return you to whole health. Diagnostic tools give our providers a clear picture of your heart and set you on the right path for treatment.

Depending on your health and condition, your treatment may include:

  • Cardiac rehabilitation to increase your strength and help you establish a heart-healthy lifestyle
  • Implanted devices to maximize heart function
  • Medication to address your condition and relieve symptoms
  • Surgery to remove blockages and restore function

At AdventHealth Carrollwood, we’re honored to care for your heart. We'll address your heart disease through medication, lifestyle changes or minimally invasive surgery before it can lead to more serious issues like heart attack or stroke. If you’re dealing with coronary heart disease or other cardiac-related illnesses, our experts will get you on the road to recovery.

A congestive heart failure diagnosis may feel overwhelming, but our team is here to help you get back to what matters most. Together, we’ll find the treatment approach that addresses your unique health needs, and we’ll be by your side for every step of your care.

At our Carrollwood hospital, you have a range of options to support your heart health, including:

  • Cardiac catheterization
  • Coaching on heart-healthy lifestyle changes
  • Counseling and support for your mind and spirit
  • Implanted devices
  • Medication
  • Minimally invasive surgery

Your heartbeat is the rhythm of your life. But sometimes, your heart can beat too fast, too slow or irregularly.

Arrhythmias (abnormal heartbeats) can cause serious health problems. Our heart rhythm specialists will evaluate your arrhythmia and recommend the best treatment for your condition. Your team will also treat any underlying condition causing your arrhythmia and monitor you to ensure your whole health.

This may include:

  • Implanted devices like pacemakers or cardioverter-defibrillators (ICD)
  • Medication to regulate your heart’s rhythm
  • Procedures to help your heart maintain a normal rhythm

Hundreds of thousands of Americans experience a stroke each year, and stroke is the leading cause of long-term disability. A stroke requires immediate care, and symptoms can appear suddenly, including:

  • Confusion
  • Drooping on one side of the face
  • Loss of balance or coordination
  • Severe headache
  • Slurred speech
  • Trouble seeing in one or both eyes
  • Weakness or numbness, especially on one side of the body

If you have one or more of these stroke symptoms, call 911 right away. Getting treatment within the first few hours after seeing signs of a stroke can reduce your risk of long-term side effects and disability.

Your recovery begins the moment you enter our emergency room. We’ll deliver the care you need to help reduce your risk of long-term complications. Our rehab team will work closely with you to provide physical, occupational or speech therapy to help you get back to the activities you love.

When your vascular system — the network of blood vessels that transport blood and oxygen to and from your heart — is impeded, it can be like facing highway construction during your morning commute. An unwell web of arteries, veins and capillaries puts up roadblocks to your blood flow. Keeping this system clear and healthy is important for stroke and heart attack prevention.

We treat a variety of vascular diseases, including:

  • Aneurysm
  • Atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries)
  • Blood clots
  • Buerger disease
  • Deep vein thrombosis
  • Peripheral artery disease (PAD)
  • Pulmonary embolism

Whatever your vascular health, trust our compassionate experts to do everything in their power to keep your heart healthy now and in the future.

At the heart of your whole health is your body’s complex network of arteries and veins that comprise your vascular system.

At AdventHealth Carrollwood, we’re dedicated to helping you regain health and confidence through personalized vein care treatments.

Our highly skilled team of vascular experts offers comprehensive vein care, from leading-edge treatments for vascular disease to minimally invasive procedures for spider or varicose veins to help you embrace confidence.

Women have unique heart health needs as cardiovascular disease often appears differently in women than in men. The signs and symptoms of heart attacks in women aren’t always the same as those in men, and research shows that understanding how to recognize and treat cardiac conditions in women results in better outcomes.

At AdventHealth Carrollwood, we take a whole-person approach with these unique factors in mind to treat women’s heart conditions.

  • Arteriography

Arteriography is a medical imaging technique that’s used to visualize the inside of blood vessels and organs of the body, with particular interest in the arteries, veins and heart chambers.

  • Calcium Scoring

This non-invasive test uses a computed tomography (CT) scan to detect calcium deposits in the coronary arteries. A score of zero means that no calcium has been detected and indicates a low risk of coronary artery disease (CAD), while a higher score is associated with a greater risk for CAD.

  • Cardiac CT Angiography

This exam uses advanced CT technology and intravenous dye to create 3D pictures of the moving heart and large vessels.

  • Cardiac Catheterization

Guided by X-ray, your doctor will thread a catheter from a blood vessel in your groin or arm to your heart, allowing us to run tests to determine how well your heart is functioning. Cardiac catheterization can also help treat certain conditions if needed.

  • Cholesterol Care

Our Lipid Wellness and Prevention program can help you manage your cholesterol. Our expert team is committed to your whole health, working to keep your heart beating strong for years to come.

  • Cardiovascular Ultrasound

An ultrasound uses sound waves to produce an image, which allows your provider to examine blood flow through the heart and arteries into your body and limbs.

  • Coronary Angioplasty

Coronary angioplasty is a minimally invasive procedure that increases blood flow through narrowed or hardened arteries. A catheter with a tiny balloon is sent through the groin or arm to where the narrowing occurs, pushing the plaque or scar tissue against the arterial wall so that blood flow can resume.

  • Diagnostic Cath Lab

A thin, hollow tube called a catheter is inserted into the heart to determine how well the heart is functioning.

  • Endovascular Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Reconstruction (EVAR)

During EVAR, our surgeons can make small incisions at your groin to insert a small, flexible tube or stent graft. The stent graft is then guided to the aneurysm with X-ray and imaging. The stent is carefully placed into the aneurysm to restore blood flow.

  • Electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG)

An ECG, also called an EKG, is a quick, painless test using sensors attached to your chest to measure your heart's electrical activity. It can show how fast or slow the heart is beating and detect irregular heartbeats, known as arrhythmias.

  • Heart Risk Assessment

To feel whole, it’s important to keep your heart healthy and strong. Because heart disease can be silent for many people, take charge of your health today and learn more about your risk.

  • Interventional Cardiology

This branch of heart care uses catheter-based procedures to treat heart disease.

  • Loop Recorder Implants

This heart-monitoring device implanted in the chest continuously records the heart's rhythm for up to three years.

  • Nuclear Cardiac Testing

Nuclear cardiac testing involves non-invasive techniques to assess myocardial blood flow, evaluate the heart's pumping function and visualize the location of a heart attack.

  • Pacemaker Implants

A pacemaker device stimulates the heart muscle and regulates its contractions. It is inserted into the heart surgically.

  • Peripheral Arterial and Venous Studies

Peripheral arterial disease involves plaque buildup in the arteries affecting a part of the body, commonly the legs. Venous studies allow diagnosis via physical exam and non-invasive testing like ultrasound or blood pressure measurements.

  • Stenting

Stenting is a procedure that uses a small, expandable tube called a stent to open a clogged artery. It's often used to treat conditions caused by a blocked or narrowed artery, including coronary heart disease and peripheral artery disease.

  • Stress Tests

In a standard stress test, a technician will attach electrical conductors to your body, which are then connected to a nearby monitor. The electrodes record your heart activity while you exercise on a treadmill or stationary bike.

  • Tilt-Table Testing

If you often feel faint, a tilt-table test can help us better understand the cause. Our team will monitor your heart rate, blood pressure and response to a specific medication as you lie on a table and are slowly tilted upward.

  • Transesophageal Echocardiogram (TEE)

A TEE is a detailed ultrasound test administered through the mouth and throat to create live pictures of the heart and its blood vessels.

  • Vascular Surgery

This refers to a variety of procedures to address problems with the body’s arteries and veins. Vascular surgery may address carotid stenosis, varicose veins, abdominal aortic aneurysm or peripheral artery disease.
