I've done my best to do *extensive* research, but a lot of it, doesn't seem like 'research'. It's overall not recommended because of the following reasons:
- 'Mother's may use in place of regular OB care' (not applicable to me. I still see my Dr regularly)
- 'May provide a false sense of security' (without a doppler, wouldn't we still have a false sense of security if we only see the DR once a month? Aren't we to assume everything is A-Ok unless we have signs/symptoms that say otherwise?)
- 'Inaccurate results' (I don't think we're pretending to be Dr's. I think we just want to hear our baby. I don't even look at the bpm)
- Doppler may be used incorrectly or defective (As with most things in life, this can happen.)
- Improper Use or Human Error. (also it happens. Where's the harm though?)
I've found very little evidence to support harm to the mother or baby, especially in intermittent and short term use. There's mentions of being exposed to heat and sound waves, but no evidence that the use of a doppler has caused any harm to mother or baby.
Just wondering if anyone read any thing different or has other feedback.

Once every 2-3days as I usually feel some fetal movement around 12-13 weeks and regular fetal movements by 14-15weeks in my previous pregnancies however this time with anterior placenta position i don’t feel regular movements so i do check every 2-3 days for a peace of mind.

I’m 17wks and around 14-15wks I was checking it daily. Now I only do it if I am feeling particularly anxious.

I’m 15 weeks and use it every other day or just when I feel anxiety, it’ll get better when I can feel movements for sure. Just hard not having an ultrasound since 10 weeks and not feeling movement yet either, like is baby real ? �� my OB told me she used the one she had at work AND she got herself one for home.

my friend gave me hers and I never use it. I used it towards the end of my last pregnancy if I didn’t feel movement most of the day. My baby was a night owl though.

I use mine every couple of days. I made a very conscious decision when I got it that I would stop using it if it caused more stress or anxiety. I also went in with the understanding that I’m not a doctor and it’ll take some time to learn where and how to find the heartbeat. I’ve had it for three weeks now and have only been able to hear the heartbeat twice, but it gets easier each time. I also wanted to get it so my husband could hear the heartbeat between appointments because he only goes to the ultrasounds.

I use mine once or twice a week. My midwife said it's fine because the little at home ones do not put off much heat at all. She said she would limit to once a day but I do less so that I don't get obsessive lol.
I think the false sense of security you read about it specifically referring to when a mom notices decreased movement (once baby is consistently moving) or anything else abnormal, then using the doppler and thinking everything is fine because they heard a heartbeat. That shouldn't be done one should still go to the ER for decreased movement.

I just got one however I will say my baby’s heart rate is usually around 150 at doc office and on my Doppler I usually am picking up lower to like 125-130 so I don’t think I’m able to find it still correctly

We use ours once a week. I’ve only used it twice this week because I was struggling with anxiety having felt flutters and then nothing for a few days.

They just say to do it infrequently because they don’t know if it causes harm or not. They don’t do studies on pregnant women, so there’s no true way to know for sure. I personally don’t have one but to each their own.
